I Have a New Home!

I took the plunge last week and moved to my own domain!  It's still a work in progress, but I'm so happy with the results thus far.  :)  That means that I will no longer be posting here, which is kinda bittersweet.  Blogger has been an awesome platform for me for 5+ years, most of that spent with a book review blog.  However, since things have been improving more and more with my Etsy business, I knew that the time was right to set up housekeeping in my own place.  :)

So, if you'd like to visit my new digs, park your car at thebelleonabudget.com.

See ya there!  :)

Makeup Monday

One of the new features that I have been dreaming up for the Belle on a Budget blog is doing some beauty reviews. Reviews are not something that I'm unfamiliar with, but beauty reviews...  well, these will be a first.  :o)

Recently, I signed up for an awesome subscription service through Ipsy.com.  Until a month ago, I didn't even know makeup subscriptions existed!  For only $10 a month, I can get a cute little bag filled with all sorts of goodies.  Shopping for makeup is not something I'm generally all that crazy about - I get anxiety just thinking about it!  This sweet subscription service allows me to spend a small monthly amount to try out some great brands.  After one month, I'm already very impressed, and I now have a couple of items that I plan to buy regularly that I otherwise would've never known about.  :o)

So, this week's review is for one of those products - Urban Decay Velvet Eyeliner in Black.

I'm not very brave when it comes to eye makeup, but eyeliner is always a standby.  I have tried a handful of different brands, some of them working very well...others, not so much.  After trying this eyeliner by Urban Decay, I may never try another.  At $20, it's a little pricey for my personal preference, but I have a feeling one pencil will last for months.  With that being the case, I'd say it's worth the investment.

I love the way it glides on - with just the slightest touch, it adds a great deal of color.  If I'm having a lazy day, but still want a little bit of makeup, it's perfect and easy to apply.  It's also waterproof, so in case I get teary, I know it won't leave a streak of black down my cheeks.  :)

All in all, I'm incredibly happy with Urban Decay's Velvet Eyeliner, and considering the regular price of it, I'm thrilled that it came in a $10 monthly subscription from Ipsy.

5 Stars

Friday Treasures

So, did you think I'd forget my resolution?! No way, José! I told you I had some new ideas up my sleeve.  :)

One of the new things I'd like to include here once a week is an Etsy treasury. If you're not familiar with treasuries, they are a way for shop owners to gather collections of things that share a common theme. Occasionally, these treasuries can even be featured on the front page. For a shop owner, that is a huge source of exposure for one solid hour, and it's definitely something that we love (at least I do!).  Eventually, I'll choose a day where this will appear every week, but for today at least, it's on a Friday.  :)

This week, I've chosen a treasury created by Wendy from HilltopCottage. She has curated some beautiful treasuries in the past, and I'm always honored when one of the Belle items makes her cut.

What are some of your favorites from this collection?  Bet ya can't pick just one!

Can you make a New Year's Resolution in May?

Yes, this is the question I've been asking myself lately as it relates to this poor attempt of a blog.  Really, I never meant to neglect it so much...  honestly...

For those of you that don't know, I have a full plate pretty much all the time.  I have a full-time job during the day where I work in the life and health insurance industry, and believe me...lately, that really has been a FULL TIME job!!!  What with learning all the new stuff with Obamacare, and trying to relearn some of the things I've forgotten about life insurance, it's a miracle that my whole head of hair is not gray!

So, after work, I have a part-time school load.  This semester, I chose to take two classes at the opposite ends of the mathematical spectrum - Pre-calculus and Principles of Accounting II.  I got asked more than once if I was a glutton for punishment.  I'm not normally, and it was just a matter of knowing that both classes were going to be needed sooner or later...might as well make it sooner.  This week is my final week for this semester, and then I'm giving myself permission to take a break for the summer.  Yippee!!

Then, if all that wasn't enough, there's my Etsy store - the one thing that I wish I could spend the most time on!  When I've occasionally found myself with two extra seconds, I have been making all sorts of new things.  While that in and of itself is wonderful, having the time to take pictures, type up descriptions, and promote them...well, that's where I wish I could clone at least one more version of myself (2 or more would be even better).  I cannot wait to get some of this stuff out there because, while I may be a bit biased, they're some of the prettiest things I've made in a long time.  Take this one for example -

Lady Cameo Cuff Bracelet
I got it listed a couple of weeks ago, and have been amazed by the response.  It's making me think that I have finally found my niche with styles and such.  Those of you out there that craft, too...you know what I'm talking about!  :)

That led me to create something else -

Pink Rose Flower Locket Ring
I'm in heaven over this beauty!  I knew that I would only be able to make two because the roses have been discontinued, but I still think it's lovely just the same.  :)  There's plans in the works to use the same ring in the future, but with a different addition on the top.

So, this summer, I'm creating a New (Mid)-Year Resolution to un-neglect my blog, post more than once every three months (hopefully a couple of times a week - there are ideas swirling in this brain of mine), and continue to create some of these vintage-style pieces.

But before I let you go, let me tell you that there's a coupon code available through the end of May in the Belle on a Budget store.  I decided since May included Mother's day, my wedding anniversary (5/18), and my Etsy anniversary (5/24), that was all cause for celebration!!  With the coupon code - MAYFORME - you can save 20% off your entire purchase.  If you are unfamiliar with using coupon codes on Etsy, this link will walk you through the entire process.

And ONE MORE THING -

Are you a fan of the Belle on a Budget store on Facebook?  Well, if you're not, it takes all of two seconds to click that cute "like" button.  I am THIS CLOSE to having 500 fans there, and fan #500 will be the recipient of a giveaway from the Belle on a Budget store!  Who can say no to free?!  :)

Until next time (which should be very soon)...  wear lots of pretty jewelry!
